Choosing hope before the storm has passed.

“We are not here to wait for the storm to pass. We are here to learn to dance in the rain.”
Although the original author of this quote is unknown, its message has resonated with millions of people because it speaks to a truth we all eventually encounter.
Life will bring storms.
Some arrive without warning. Others linger far longer than we ever expected. They may take the form of grief, illness, financial hardship, broken relationships, trauma, uncertainty, or simply a season where nothing seems to go as planned.
When we’re in the middle of a storm, it’s natural to believe that life can only begin again once everything is fixed. We tell ourselves:
I’ll be happy when…
I’ll have peace when…
I’ll start living again after…
Without realizing it, we place our lives on hold while we wait for circumstances to change.
But life rarely unfolds according to our timelines.
Some storms pass quickly. Others reshape us.
Learning to “dance in the rain” doesn’t mean pretending the storm isn’t real. It doesn’t mean denying pain, forcing optimism, or acting as though everything is fine.
It means refusing to let difficult circumstances define the quality of your life.
It means finding moments of gratitude while healing is still taking place.
It means allowing yourself to laugh again, even if tears still come.
It means believing that hope and hardship can exist in the same season.
For some, dancing in the rain may look like asking for help.
For others, it may mean getting out of bed after weeks of discouragement.
It may mean going back to school, applying for the job, attending the counseling session, making the difficult phone call, or simply taking one small step when the future feels uncertain.
These moments may seem ordinary, but they are quiet acts of courage.
At Seven’s Grace, we’ve learned that healing isn’t about waiting until every problem disappears. It’s about discovering that even in life’s most difficult seasons, there is still beauty to notice, joy to experience, relationships to nurture, and purpose to pursue.
The storm may still be overhead.
But it doesn’t have to silence your laughter.
It doesn’t have to steal your future.
And it doesn’t get to decide who you become.
Faith reminds us that we are never alone in our storms. Even when we cannot see the path ahead, we can continue taking the next step with hope, trusting that this season is not the end of our story.
Perhaps that is what it really means to dance in the rain.
Not waiting for life to become perfect.
But choosing to keep living, loving, growing, and hoping—even before the skies have cleared.
Because overcoming doesn’t always begin when the storm ends.
Sometimes it begins the moment we decide to take the next step anyway.
Reflection Questions
What storm are you waiting to pass before allowing yourself to fully live?
What part of your life have you unintentionally placed on hold?
What is one small step you can take today that moves you toward hope instead of fear?
A Simple Practice
This week, instead of asking, “When will this storm end?”, try asking a different question:
“How can I live well, even here?”
Write down one thing that still brings you peace, one person who encourages you, and one small action you can take today.
You don’t have to wait for perfect circumstances to begin living again.
Sometimes the most meaningful growth happens while it’s still raining.
